Gemstones Beginning with "U"

Unakite is a granite made up of a mix of red/pink feldspar, white/gray quartz and a pistachio-colored stone called epidote. It is named for the Unaka Mountains in the Southeastern United States where it was first discovered. Deposits can be found mainly in the United States, but also in South Africa, Brazil and China. Unakite is said to help unify the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of self; to help live in the present instead of dwelling on the past by releasing the mental or emotional blocks that can often impede moving forward; to stimulate the health of the heart and circulatory systems; and to ensure a healthy reproductive system. Mohs' hardness: 6 to 7.

Uvarovite is an emerald green variety of garnet. It rarely occurs in gemstone quality. Deposits can be found in Finland, India, Canada, Poland, Russia and California. See Garnet for more information.
