Gemstones Beginning with "F"

Fancy Jasper, also known as Indian agate, is an opaque creamy beige or gray stone with lavender, green, pink, orange or red swirls or specks. Fancy Jasper is said to facilitate tranquility and help eliminate worry and depression. See Jasper for more information.

Feldspar is one of the many groups of minerals used to classify gemstones.

Fire Agate is a opaque variety of agate whose orange and cream markings, and sometimes yellow and brown, resemble flames.

Fire Opal is a subgroup of the opal species, named for its orange color. It is usually milky and shows no play-of-color, but the best quality fire opals are clear and transparent. Deposits can be found in Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, the United States and Western Australia. See Opal for more information.

Flower Jasper has a cream base swirled with shades of gray, mauve, raspberry and mustard. It is a fairly rare stone on the market today. Flower jasper is said to lift spirits, soothe a broken heart and help one to break out of depression. See Jasper for more information.

Fluorite is calcium fluoride, a source of fluoride used in toothpaste and drinking water. Its main color variations include soft purple, a deep soft green and a mixture of the two. It is usually translucent to opaque. Deposits can be found in Bavaria, Argentina, Burma, England, France, Namibia, Austria, Switzerland and Illinois. Fluorite is said to help change chaos into order. Mohs' hardness: 4.

Fossil Stone, also known as fossil coral, is ancient coral that gradually turned into agate. The skeletons of the coral appear as "flowers" on the stone. Colors vary widely, but typical colors include gray, brown, black, yellow, white and, on rare occasion, red. Deposits can be found in Florida and Georgia. Fossil stone is said to help with trauma therapy and to help work through emotional issues. Mohs' hardness: 7.
