Gemstones Beginning with "D"Dalmatian Jasper, also called dalmatiner, is named after the dalmatian dog breed because of its spotted brown-and-black speckled appearance. Dalmatian jasper is said to increase patience; to lessen or remove disillusionment; and to protect against nightmares, depression and negative thinking. See Jasper for more information. Diamond, derived from the Greek word adamas, the unconquerable, is the hardest substance found in nature. Made of pure carbon, it is four times harder than corundum (ruby and sapphire), which is the next hardest mineral. Diamond can vary from transparent to opaque and range in color from colorless, yellow and green to blue, reddish and black. Deposits can be found in Australia, Brazil, India, Namibia, Russia and South Africa. Diamond is said to carry the highest healing frequency; to encourage the full awareness of spiritual energy within the physical body; and to recall a person's true destiny and purpose. Mohs' hardness: 10. Dravite is a yellow-brown to dark brown variety of tourmaline. See Tourmaline for more information. Druse is an agate nodule with crystals in the central cavity. Dumortierite is a transparent to opaque denim-like blue mineral named after the French paleontologist Dumortier. It is often confused with lapis or sodalite. Deposits can be found in Brazil, France, India, Canada, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Sri Lanka and the United States. Mohs' hardness: 7 to 8-1/2. |
